Truth Be Told is the fourth installment in the provocative CultureJam MKE indie art series, showcasing outstanding regional artists and challenging dominant notions of the relationship between human beings and their physical and mental environments. In this round 40 artists explore and expose their idea of truth in a multitude of ways, providing a thought provoking experience for viewers.

Highlights of the evening’s show include painter Luke Farley and photographer Marc Tasman who’ve been collaborating on a series they call “Sporting Goods,” fine art pieces made from appropriating images of automatic weaponry from retail sporting goods ads, maniacally scrawled with the rhetoric of traditional sports campaign slogans, “just do it,” and “impossible is nothing.”

Also featured will be mixed media work by Blanche Brown entitled “When You Try To Leave,” depicting the stark reality of what happens when minorities step outside the system’s boundaries and dare to stand up for themselves, and Thomas Hellstrom will exhibit a portion of Xeno:Mke 2013-2023, a time-capsule project done in collaboration with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center.

Valaria Tatera’s piece “Sins of the Father : A Native American Story” explores the story of her great-grandfather Richard Holmes of the Bad River Tribe, and Christopher McIntyre Perceptions will display his 20×30” archival print of “Fall From Grace” examining how, “In this fallen world, we find ourselves in tempting scenarios that seem stranger than fiction…”

“tl;dr” by Robert Burns consists of a canvas with specific directions for hearing the truth, with those who follow being treated to a special “hour of audio truth” broadcast via shortwave on 5110 kHz.

Musical entertainment for the evening provided by DJ’s, Tiny Bubbles and Sir Tyler Robots.
